Hey! My name is Abby…
For those of you who don’t know me I’m an America born, Cyprus-raised, Estonia-working girl. The details in between those words are beautiful, fun, but quite complex. Who knew “where are you from?”, could be such a complicated question, haha. And as I don’t think it would be wise to overload the “about” page with a novel-long entry, for now we will leave it at that.
Some important things you should know about me are: I have an amazing family! I don’t mean to brag… but if you know them, you know what I’m talking about. I have a wonderful mama and papa, two amazing sisters who are both moms to my three cute, adorable, and perfect in every way niece and nephews.
I’m currently working in Estonia at the Estonian National Ballet. Ballet is a huge part of my life! It is one of my biggest passions. I feel so blessed to be able to do what I love on a daily basis; so be prepared to be hearing a lot more about that.
On a more random note, I love doggies! Like, I really love doggies, (and peanut butter- but I’ll get back to that). As much as I love doggies… I don’t have one. Yes, I know, it’s a tragedy. Sad to say, the life of a ballerina just isn’t very doggie-friendly, however if you have a puppy who needs some extra love, I’d love to share a petting hand (hint, hint).
Now, back to, peanut butter. I love it! But to be honest, I love pretty much all food! EXCEPT mint-chocolate and orange-chocolate and liquorish. Write that down, don’t ever, EVER get Abby mint or orange chocolate or liquorish. It will not end well.
Right, now that the important business is out of the way, you may be asking, “so why a blog?” or “what is all of this about?”
Many people have told me or asked me to start a blog, but I just never knew what about. But the other day as I was journaling, I looked up and saw a pile of 16 old journals from the last few years, just sitting there full of words of love, of joy, of peace, of healing. And so this is what I want to share; myself. Bits of my story, my highs and lows, but more importantly the words that kept me going, that strengthened me, encouraged me, filled me with purpose.
My hope is that as I share these adapted journal entries, you may be blessed, built up, and encouraged the same way I was. Lets be honest, life isn’t easy most of the time; we all need to feed our souls with food that will fuel us for this journey. In the New Testament, a writer by the name of Paul referred to our life as a “race” and to us as athletes. (Heb 12:1, 1Cor 9:24-27) He also talks about “fighting the good fight” (1Tim 6:12). I remember thinking, how in the world do we expect to run our race or fight through life’s hardships if we are starving? I know, as a dancer, the importance of being well nourished is vital to maintain peak performance and not become burned out (or hangry… nobody needs to see that). It’s the same in life, we need those powerful, life giving words to feed our souls, just like an athlete needs food to nourish its body. Jesus once said, “I am the bread of life.” (John 6:35) and in John 1 the Bible describes Jesus as “the Word”. Jesus is God’s voice to us, feeding life into our souls. Personally, I think that’s really awesome. But maybe you don’t believe in God, or at least not in Jesus, or just think that it’s all weird, ancient stuff, and that’s ok. But don’t let that scare you away. Believe, don’t believe, agree, disagree, wherever you land, my hope is that you are blessed, encourage, and inspired to live the fullest life.
With all that said, lets eat!!
